Funeral services for William Terry Palmer, 82, of Pelham will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home with interment at Union Hill Cemetery.
Rev. Matt Peek and Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate.
Born October 17, 1933 in Grady County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Robert Leavy Palmer and Izetta Humphries Palmer. Mr. Palmer passed away at South GA Medical Center in Valdosta on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
Mr. Palmer is a member of Pelham First Baptist Church.
Mr. Palmer graduated from Cairo High School, furthering his education through college. His career spanned over many years in banking and real estate. He began his career in 1955 at the Cotton Office of the Hand Trading Company, then to the Farmer's Bank of Pelham. He later became President of Farmer's Bank and served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1968 to 1985. Mr. Palmer retired from banking and opened Terry Palmer Enterprises from 1989 to 2000. He is the current owner of Terry Palmer Reality.
During his lifetime, Mr. Palmer served in the United States Army and was very involved in his community. He is a current member of the American Legion Smith Spence Post 144, where he also served as a past Commander; He is a past member and president of Pelham Lions Club; He served on the Mitchell County Housing Authority for twenty years; a current honorary member and past president of the Pelham Rotary Club; he was named Citizen of the Year in 1985; past chairman of the Mitchell County Economic Development and the Mitchell County Economic Authority; past president of the Southwest GA Board of Realtors; a current lifetime member of the Pelham Masonic Lodge; current Shriner and member of the Hasan Temple; and was selected Realtor of the Year in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ona Fay Simpson Palmer, daughters Debbie Parrish (Jeff), Kerry Weaver (Jim), Jennifer Bond (Ken); grandchildren Christy Davis, Roxanne Reagan (Marc), Casey Petruszak (Jeremy), Kelly Miller (Tyler), and Jordan Bond; great-grandchildren Nathan Rodriguez, Ryder Miller, Kellan Petruszak, and Luke Petruszak; brother Macel Palmer; sisters Margaret Barfield and Janice Spence.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Leavy Palmer and Izetta Humphries Palmer; brother Robert L. Palmer, Jr., sister Janelle Palmer West; great grandson Wesley Hunter Miller; son-in-law Stacy L. King; and three neices.
Pallbearers will be Banjo Davis, W.C. Kinard, Ken Ferrell, Lee Glenn, David Rackley, and Elmer Conley.
