Shirley Jean Gassett

Funeral services for Shirley Jean Newsome Gassett, 66, of Meigs will be held Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at 11:00AM at New Home Freewill Baptist Church in Vada. The Rev. Mike Newsome and Chris Newsome will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Caleb Sealy, Craig Foister, Christian Willis, Howard Scarborough, Glenn Faircloth and Luke Foister. Born January 4, 1953 in Camilla she was the daughter of the late Hilton Lee Newsome and Yvonne Faircloth Newsome. Mrs. Gassett passed away Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. Vincent's East Hospital East in Birmingham, AL. She was a retired Restaurant owner. On July 3, 1977 she married Terry Gassett of Meigs who survives. Other survivors include her son, Chase Gassett of Meigs; a grandson, Gavin Gassett of Titusville, Fl; sister, Denise Sealy (Whit) of Meigs and a brother, Don Newsome (Vicki) of Vada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Kenneth Newsome. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 23, 2019 from 6:00-8:00PM.
