Funeral services for Marlon Nelms, 85, of Hernando, Fl will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 1:00PM at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home with interment in Meigs Sunset Cemetery. Born November 20, 1939 in Thomas County near Meigs he was the 8th of 9 kids born to the late Oscar and Myrtice C. Nelms of Meigs. Mr. Nelms passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home in Hernando, Fl. Marlon attended elementary school in Meigs, high school in Pelham and completed a four years of college at Berry College in Mt. Berry, GA, two years at the University of Georgia in Athens completing a Master's degree in Entomology in 1966. Marlon directed the mosquito control program in St. Louis, MO. for 13 years and Miami-Dade County for 25 years until his retirement in 2006. Marlon retired to Hernando, FL in 2006, and lived there until his death. Marlon is survived by two sisters, Greta Sikes of Columbia, SC; Wanda Baumgardner of Irmo, SC; and one brother, Carol Nelms of Meigs. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Frances Nelms Marcus and Yvonne Nelms Tart, and three brothers, Thomas Nelms, Charles Theo (Cecil) Nelms and Ralph Nelms. Marlon's hobbies included music, gardening, and spending time with his beloved special friend, Shirley Kohring of Hernando, FL.
