Wayne Hurst

Leon Wayne Hurst, 72, of Pelham passed away peacefully at home December 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was born at Howard Hospital in Pelham, Georgia on June 28, 1952 to the late Leon Woodrow ‘Buddy’ Hurst and Marzine Hurst Cooper who survives. He worked as a carpenter and retired from Southern Storage Solutions in 2013 after 14 and a half years. Wayne was baptized in faith on October 13, 2024 by his dear friend, Jeff Carter. Survivors include: wife, Betty Hurst of Pelham; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael ‘Petey’ Austin of Pelham; granddaughter, Courtney Austin of Pelham; granddaughter and husband, Kayla and Will Burgess; mother, Marzine Roberts Hurst Cooper of Cairo; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Roy Lowe; brother, Michael ‘Mikey’ Hurst of Meigs; brother-in-law and wife, Buddy and Pam Pearson of Opelika, AL; sister-in-law, Nell Pritchard of Pelham. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his father, Leon Woodrow ‘Buddy’ Hurst, and his brother, William ‘Billy’ Kendell Hurst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00AM at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home with interment in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service. Rev. Jeff Carter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Barney Hunter, Mark Boak, Terry Sadler, Chad Pritchard, Simon Batchelor, JR Donley, Anthony Huotari and Buddy Pearson.
