John Wayland Thompson,

John Wayland Thompson, Sr. of Ochlocknee, Georgia passed away on October 3, 2014 at his residence. Born on May 19, 1921 to the late Hershel James and Lizzie Chason Thompson, his family roots run deep in Thomas County and he always called Ochlocknee Home. He attended South Georgia College in Douglas after high school graduation but decided early in his school career that farming was in his blood and returned home to pursue his passion. He was a member of the Ochlocknee United Methodist Church, a veteran of WWII receiving a purple heart during his term in service, and also served a term as a member of the Thomas County Board of Education. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jerry Bulloch Thompson, daughter Carolyn Rebecca and an infant son. In addition to his parents, his brother Douglas H. Thompson and sister Elizabeth T. Wierengo also preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons, John W. Thompson, Jr. (Jeanne), James R. Thompson (Paula) and Russell A. Thompson ( Margaret) all of Ochlocknee and a daughter Suzanne T. Anderson (Jimmy) of Pelham. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Becky T. Dunham, Waye Thompson, Mat Thompson, Ginger Funderburk, Jamie Thompson, Kelly Youmans, Caroline Parr, Tess Shiver and Tyler Autrey, ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews for whom he had great love and affection and his devoted caregiver Claretha Willingham. No Formal visitation will be held. The family will instead receive visitors at the Thompson home in Ochlocknee. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 4:00PM at Ochlocknee City Cemetery, Rev. Nathan Fowler, Rev. Andy Frazier and Ronnie Morrell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Ochlocknee United Methodist Church C/O Ronnie Herring P. O.
