Joe Caldwell, Sr.

Funeral services for Joe Caldwell, 90, of Thomasville formerly of Pelham will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00AM at Hand Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member.  Rev. Keith Goodlett and Terry Powell will officiate and interment will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Josh Caldwell, Jay Joiner, Jake Setzer, Chase Caldwell, Jordan Caldwell, and Dawson Gowan. Honorary Pallbearers will be former players and coaches of Coach Caldwell and are invited to sit together at the church. Born June 21, 1933 in Sylacauga, AL he was the son of the late Frederick Benjamin and Lucille Hickman Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Southern Pines. He was a Sunday School Teacher for 50 plus years, received many athletic honors during his time as a coach, also was in the GISA and Mitchell County Hall of Fame, and former Mayor of Pelham. He was married to Betty Caldwell for 62 years until her death and to his current wife Sara Scoggins Caldwell of Thomasville who survives. Other survivors include his children, Debbie Joiner (Jim) of Albany; Jody Caldwell (Terry) of Thomasville; Jeffrey Caldwell (Elaine) of Moultrie and Leslie Setzer of Albany; grandchildren, Josh Caldwell, Jay Joiner, Matt Joiner, Jake Setzer, Jordan Caldwell, Jessica Maddox, Chase Caldwell, Amy Gowan, Kristen Cook, Lindsey Sanders, Leah Won and Maggie Shirey, and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents and a grandson, Turner Caldwell.  In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hand Memorial Untied Methodist Church.
