Funeral services for Jimmie Franklin Avant, 87, of McDonough will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00AM at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home with interment to follow at Pelham City Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Brett will officiate. Born September 29, 1935 he was the son of the late Luuvie and Daisy Dell Avant. Mr. Avant passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Westbury Medical Care and Rehab in Jackson. Dad grew up in Pelham, GA and went to High School there. He served in the US Navy from 1955-1958 and was in Japan and Philippines during his service. After the Navy, he graduated from South Georgia Technical Trade School in Americus, GA where he learned engine/diesel mechanics and he loved to fish. He loved to play and sing music. Mainly Country and Gospel on guitar and piano. He came from a musical family both parents, Luuvie and Daisy Avant loved to sing and play as well as sisters Opal and Margie. He passed the music down to his children and grandchildren. Dad loved music, good southern home cooking, Georgia Bulldogs and his family. He lived a simple life and didn’t require much to make him content and happy. He did receive Jesus into his life long ago and especially later on in his life enjoyed sing gospel songs. He was funny and witty and loved to joke with family and his friends. I asked him one time towards the end of his life, with all of your experience that you have learned through the years, what would you tell your grandchildren about life? He said” I’d tell them that life ain’t easy and there are all sorts of things that you will go through, but just do the best they can”. He is survived by his son, Fletcher Avant (Tammy) of McDonough; grandson, Brian Avant of Nashville, TN; Brandon Avant of Savannah, GA ; Tristen Webb of Athens, GA ; a sister, Margie Davis of Pelham; nieces and nephews, Milton Willis of Pelham; Clay Davis and Tim Davis both of Jacksonville, FL; and Faith Brett of Florida.
