James Mitchell Layton, 71, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great
Grandfather and Brother, died peacefully September 28, 2015 at his home in
Meigs, Georgia. Mitchell was born on January 8, 1944 to Nelly Laura Layton
and James William Layton in Tallahassee, Florida. After High school, he
gained employment with Sunny Land Foods where he met his wife of 40 years,
Helen S. Layton. Mr. & Mrs. Layton were married on June 19, 1975 in Thomas
County, Georgia. Together they attended Victory Baptist Church and were
dedicated members for many years. Mitchell was an avid hunter and
fisherman who loved to be outdoors. He was preceded in death by his mother
Nelly L. Layton, father James W. Layton, brothers, Luscious, Joe and Tommy
Layton, sisters, Janie Hawthorne and Edna Ruth Wood. He is survived by
wife Helen Layton, sons, Michael and William Layton (Lana Beth), Jimmy and
Jamie Sangster (Angie) daughters, Beth Sangster and Christy Brooks
(Michael) as well as a beloved nephew, Jimmy Layton (Cassie), who was more
like a son than a nephew. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and
five great grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday, September 30,
2015 at 2 PM at Victory Baptist Church in Thomasville, GA. Visitation
will be Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 6 PM to 8 PM at
Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home Chapel in Pelham, GA. There will be
a private graveside. Rev. Gary Holland will officiate. Friends may
