James Ray Hurst

Funeral services For James Ray Hurst, 66, of Baconton will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 9:30AM at Pelham First Baptist Church. The Revs. Jim Hills and Andy Hall will officiate. Mr. Hurst passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his residence. Born February 1, 1949 in Pelham he was the son of the late William Edward (Ed) Hurst and Lois Atkinson Hurst who survives of Pelham. He was married for 44 years to Cynthia (Cindy) Hills Hurst who survives of Baconton. He worked with the postal service as a city mail carrier and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Baconton Baptist Church, recipient of the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Medal, Good Conduct Medal. Survivors other than his wife and mother include a son, Kevin James Hurst and Amy; Grandchildren Shelly Coleman, Alysha Hurst, Timothy James Hurst and Lindsay Hurst all of Las Vegas, NV; Sisters, Betty Sue Palmer; Kathy Dawson(Wally); Sherrie Godwin(Dennis); Alice Haire(Reggie) and a brother Kenny Hurst(Debbie); a sister-in-law, Sandy Greenwood(Bob) and a brother-in-law, Jim Hills(Cindy) and several nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 6:00-8:00PM. Interment will be at noon Friday in Andersonville National Cemetery.
