Hugh Earl Godwin, 79, of Pelham passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15, 2025 2:00PM at Mizpah Church. Elder Jimmy Smith, Elder Walter Todd, Elder Lamar Robinson and Rev. Nathan Fowler will officiate with interment to follow at Mizpah Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brice Edwards, Cody Godwin, Cole Harrison, Zach Harrison, Ethan Godwin, Bert Godwin, and Shaylan Godwin. Born December 18, 1945 in Cairo, GA, he was the son of the late Tolbert Hansel, Sr. and Lillian Layton Godwin. Mr. Earl was a member and deacon of Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church, served in the US Military and spent his life as a pressman and farmer. He was married for fifty-nine years to Sonja Sellers Godwin, who survives. Other survivors include his son, Jeffery Godwin (Mandy) of Pelham; his daughter Greta Harrison (Ron) of Cairo; grandchildren Brice Edwards (Bailey) of Cairo, Cody Godwin (Leea) of Pelham, Cole Harrison (Alanah) of Cairo, Zach Harrison (Logan) of Cairo, Ethan Godwin of Pelham, and Shaylan Godwin of Pelham; great grandchildren Berklin Edwards, Beckham Edwards, Brix Edwards, Tucker Godwin, Carter Harrison, and Tate Harrison; sister Carolyn Godwin Brooks; brothers-in-law Ladon Sellers (Debra), Rodney Sellers (Kelly), Marlon Sellers (PJ), and Harold Sellers (Debra); and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother T J. Godwin, sisters Bonnie Williamson, Cleo Ferrell, Dollie Edwards and Lorene Crumley. Memorial Contributions may be made to Mizpah Church or Mizpah Cemetery fund 419 Godwin Lane Pelham, GA 31779. The family will meet with family and friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Willis Jamerson Braswell Funeral Home.
