Deborah Lowery Godwin

Deborah Lowery Godwin, age 61, of Lilburn, Georgia left to be with Jesus on September 26, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Roger Godwin (brother of Bo Godwin); daughter, Meredith Godwin Kurland of Snellville, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Godwin Popham (Michael) of Lilburn, Georgia; two grandsons, Nicholas and Benjamin Popham; brother, David Lowery (Debbie) and niece, Jennifer; nephew, Michael of Cooper City, Florida and other relatives in addition to a host of friends. Deborah, born to the late Thelma Louise and Jerry Berter Lowery in Miami, Florida, attended Valdosta State and Atlanta Law School. She received a Master Degree in Education from Georgia State University as well as a Specialist in Education degree from the University of Georgia. Deborah was enjoying her retirement from her career in Education with the DeKalb County School System as a Principal of Chamblee Middle School, yet her dedication to education knew no bounds as she taught as an adjunct professor with Shorter University at the Atlanta campus. Deborah was a devoted family woman and spent her time with her husband, daughters and grandchildren. In addition to being an adoring wife, mother and grandmother, Deborah loved to read, enjoyed gardening and rearranging the house on a whim! Deborah's earthly remains will be interred in the Godwin family plot at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery on March 10, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in a graveside service. Dr. Bill Blanchard will be officiating.
