Arthur Godwin

Arthur Stephen Godwin, 99, of Whigham, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at his home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church, interment will be at Mizpah Church Cemetery.  Elder James R. Smith, Jr. will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jeff Godwin, Frank Williams, Don Harrell, Hayden Godwin, Derwood McKelvey, and Jamie Kennedy. Born October 30, 1923, in Grady County, he was the son of the late John Stephen and Mamie Elizabeth Ponder Godwin.  Mr. Godwin married the late Nancy Lou Godwin on June 24, 1961 and sadly lost her on October 30, 2006.  He served in the United States Navy, was a member of Whigham High School Class of 42, was a self-employed farmer and a member of Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer and Clerk for many years, and served as Chairman for ASCS office for fifteen years. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Linda Bell, Dennis Godwin, James R. Smith, Jr., Bobby I. Godwin, Kenneth Godwin, Cheryl Gravenstein, Barbara Benners, Randyll Godwin, Mary Ruth Murdoch, and Sarah Gandy, two cousins Earl Godwin and Carolyn Brooks.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers John L. Godwin, Samuel J. Godwin, Donald H. Godwin, Walter Paul Godwin and a sister, Mary Godwin Smith.  The family will visit with family and friends from 10:00-11:00 AM at Mizpah Church prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mizpah Cemetery Fund, % Earl Godwin, 419 Godwin Lane, Pelham, GA  31779   Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home
