Funeral services for Alva Jackson (AJ) Cooke, Jr., 68, of Pelham will be held Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2:00PM at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home. The Rev. Les Pollock will officiate and interment will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. He was self-employed in earth works and member of Lake Pleasant Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Joshua Baggs, Marc Collins, Lee Flynt, Robert Nowell, Ricky Strickland and Jr. West. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Bostick, Alan Bulloch, Bruce Hendley, Michael Hendley, Ross Nesmith,and Jimmy West. Born May 13, 1949 in Pelham he was the son of the late Alva Jackson Cooke, Sr and Virginia Dare Wynn Cooke. Mr. Cooke passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at his residence. He was married for 34 years to Katrina (Kay) Nowell Cooke who survives. Other survivors include his Children, Ashley Cooke Morey (Ron) of Baconton; Kayla Cooke (J.B.) of Pelham; Charles Taylor (Erin) of Camilla; sisters, Virginia Adams (Bob) of Lakeland, Fl; Marilyn Johnson (Richard) of Williston, SC; Miriam Baggs (Robbie) of Hopeful; Brother Michael Cooke (Wanda) of Pelham; Grandchildren, Landon, Summer, and Saylor Morey and Carmen Manzano, Paisley Buckner, Ilissa, Worth and Ryder Taylor and a Special Cousin, Bette Frosteg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mother and Father-in-law, William (Billy) and Hazel Nowell, grandparents, Willie Roy and Elizabeth Wynn and Andrew Jackson and Virginia Cooke.  The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Lake Pleasant Baptist Church or to the cancer center at St. Judes Children Hospital. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 6:00-8:00PM.
